This is a large island with a long and fractured past.
As a result, Cyprus offers a variety of experiences if you go looking for them. The southern coast is dominated by cities that cater to tourists. The hinterland is picturesque and sparsely populated. The south is Greek. The north is Turkish.
Some History
The Mediterranean island of Cyprus became an independent country in 1959 when it ceased to be a British Crown colony. Debate as to whether Cyprus should form a union with Greece led to years of inter communal violence between Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
In 1967 there was a military coup in Greece. In 1974 the Greek military instigated a coup d’état in Cyprus and overthrew the Cypriot President. This prompted an immediate invasion by Turkey, which occupied the northern part of the island. 200,000 Greek Cypriots fled south, and 60,000 Turkish Cypriots went north.
It has stayed that way ever since.

I have seen several travel blog videos and posts of people who have visited Cyprus and only went to the tourist locations on the Greek side of the island. I think this is a real shame and a big mistake.
This map shows the locations we visited, all of which are described in the video.
In this video, we got off to a slow start, but with some effort, we discovered a charming island with undiscovered potential.
