The Complications of Motorcycling in India

Royal Enfield Bullet
We asked the guy who ran our hotel if we could hire a motorbike and the next morning an old Royal Enfield Bullet turned up. Our overnight trip from Udaipur to Kumbhalgarh and back was about as adventurous as we got on this trip. Heaps of fun!

We stopped at the Shri Ekling Ji Temple which was definitely worth a visit and the Maharana Pratap Museum which appeared to be great for Indian schoolboys but was pretty meaningless to me.

The first day of riding took twice as long as the second because we were permanently lost. It was great.

This map may represent the route we took (but it probably doesn’t).

The toll roads appeared to be free for motorbikes (you just ride past the toll both through a skinny lane to the left).

The young kids on motorbikes were very friendly and helpful. Without a few of them showing us the way we would still be going round in circles now.

The scenery in this part of the world is not spectacular but it has a rural charm that is made more appealing from the vantage point of a motorcycle.

When we got to the fort at Kumbhalgarh we watched the light and sound show and didn’t understand any of it.

This video shows the sort of roads you can expect in rural Rajasthan and offers some advice to prospective bikers.
