Jaisalmer – By Air, Bus, Jeep and Camel

Camel Safari - Jaisalmer
The Golden City in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan.

Our accommodation was within the fort itself. This was our most expensive hotel in India but I think it was worth splashing out (it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site after all). It cost about $49 US per night. You can see what the hotel looked like here.

Wandering around inside the fort and the streets outside it is a genuinely worthwhile experience. The intricate stonework here is remarkable.

We paid to get into the Patwon Ki Haveli which is a museum nowadays, and we got shown around a couple of smaller Havelis for free (a Haveli is a mansion).

For me the trip to the Jain temple in Lodurva was the best thing we did in Jaisalmer.

Everone who visits Jaisalmer does a camel safari. We joined the throng and did an overnight trip. It was very much a tourist thing but nevertheless I’m glad we did it. We did our camel safari with Real Desert Man and they seemed very professional.

This video includes a visit to the very lovely Jain temple at Lodurva and an overnight camel safari.
